Hello and thanks a lot for the mod! You peeps that release mods and provide help/support are amazing!!
If memory serves, I've used NVR in the past, but on a new rig now, 2 somewhat problematic issues:
1 - Can't go back into the game after alt+tab, have to terminate it and open again. This doesn't bother me so much.
2 -The water disappears. After tweaking values through .inis and ENB on/off, the water options in falloutprefs.ini do bring the water back, but looking terrible. Funny thing is that disabling WaterManagement in the NewVegasReloaded.ini didn't remedy the issue, in fact made it worse. Shame cause I really want to use the mod, for the perfomance boost if nothing else.
NVR 1.3.0 in MO2 on top of a (nearly) barebones TTW install. Windows 10, AMD Ryzen 1800, RX 580 8GB, runtime libs and all else should be tiptop. Launched the game many times with different setups, to the best of my (limited) knowledge.
If somebody feels like trying to lend me a hand, I would surely welcome it! =]
Dunno if this approach is valid, but I tried to delete NVR mod folders little by little, to see if a solution presented itself.
Mostly everything in NewVegasReloaded.ini is disabled, and by now Im left with it, its .dll of the same name, and binkw32.dll at FNV root folder. The water is still gone! =D
Removing the mod but leaving NVR binkw32.dll does cause the water to come back normally (no weirdnesses), with or without ENB. Would guess the issue here is something within NewVegasReloaded.dll - but again I dunno how valid is this approach.
By reading the forum, it seems a new version will come out in the future? Eagerly waiting for it ^^, but meanwhile if anybody has tips to help me troubleshoot this issue, it is appreaciated!
Okay, found a fix/workaround, and wasn't even looking for one anymore =P
It seems that, to fully enable bAllow30Shaders=1 in falloutprefs.ini, it is also needed to look at rendererinfo.txt, check for the "Shader Package" number, and replace packages correctly at Fallout New Vegas\Data\Shaders
(in my case, it was to replace shaderpackage017.sdp for the shaderpackage019.sdp)
Did that, and after launching the game, guess what? Yep, water was invisible again, with NVR completely uninstalled and its alternate binkw32.dll out of FNV root folder.
So, thought of doing some reverse engineering: I restored the backup of shaderpackage017.sdp, and replaced shaderpackage019.sdp for a copy of 17. Installed NVR again, ticked it in mods list, launch game, and guess what? Water was there!! =D
With 2 small nuisances: Had normal vision while underwater (fixed that by disabling WaterManagement in NewVegasReloaded.ini) And the reflection in water puddles is kinda wrong, as if reflecting stronger and way more than it should. Doesn't seem to affect larger bodies of water, only puddles. Still couldn't find a fix - other than turning bUseWaterReflections=0 in falloutprefs.ini because hey, the reflections are so pretty, don't really feel like turning it off for the sake of water puddles.
Anyway, dunno why the shader 3.0 didn't work? Seems like all it did was cause the water to disappear. If anyobdy would like to comment (teach me a bit) or provide tips about solving the puddles reflections issue, I would love that!
Still, have a problem with the water puddles, the water is not appearing... Or is it that the water is too shallow and becomes transparent? Any fix or way to mitigate that?¿ Example: imgur.com/a/ZV5CfXe
Alternatively, is there a functional way to disable NVR water management? WaterManagement = 0 Apparently does nothing [Shaders] Water = 0 Makes the water disappear
(By leaving both at zero and replacing shaderpackage019 for a copy of 017 at Fallout New Vegas\Data\Shaders, I've been currently able to have vanilla water restored and handled by ENB, while having NVR effects, such as the underwater one. Altough I dunno if this shader replacing is gonna lead into crashes or whatever, so a proper way to disable NVR in favor of vanilla would be welcome!)
Many thanks to you and the Reloaded Team! All of you modders are amazing people!
I think the water puddles could be a NVR bug, i have solved it in the next release. NVR fixes the vanilla bug about missed water reflections but there was an other problem to solve for water planes. Probably puddles are not there for that. Wait the new release in this month.
